Alex Bush

Since 2009, Alex has worked on more than 50 shows as builder, and more than a dozen as stagehand and flyman. His acting career began in 2012 with a role in the Western Stage's "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". Since then, he has performed in half a dozen or so roles at the Western Stage in Salinas, California, and the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts in Carmel, California.

How was the swordfighting?

"A lot of fun! Not as difficult as I expected, but at the same time not easy by any means."

What will you remember the most?

"Working with Eli on the sword choreography. Probably the most challenging thing I've had to do as an actor: keeping up with the complex-for-me blocking, and not losing the character. Great stuff."

Elizabeth Murillo

When Elizabeth enrolled in a beginning acting class at Harnell College in Salinas, California, she started attending Performing Arts Club meetings, and found out how to audition for the Western Stage.  She has performed in “Zoot Suit,” “Westside Story,” and “The Arsonist,” among others.

What will you remember the most about this project?

"Having to be fierce.  Sword fighting as a woman musketeer---very uncommon.  It was my first time acting for the camera.  Everything feels like it goes by faster, and it’s hard with multiple takes and having to pay attention to continuity.   In theater we are encouraged to change things here and there, but you can’t do that with film."

Michelle Sevaaetasi

Michelle’s first acting experiences were in school plays.  She attended an elementary school that was heavily involved in the arts, where students interested in acting found themselves performing in elaborate productions.

In college, one of her friends who had been in a film told her to try it.  She enjoyed it and soon built a reputation for being available, on time, and reliable.  She acted in more than 20 student film projects.

What do you remember the most about working on “Chess Sword-Fight”?

"The dress. It was very tight because I was so pregnant!

And the knife!  The excitement of putting the blade to Alex’ neck.  I don’t ever have a reason to do that in real life, and I was clumsy and pregnant.  I was really scared of hurting Alex, so I was being really careful.  It was nerve-wracking and thrilling."
